Procedures are the treatments you carry out during a visit, such as a dental clean or stitches. Setting them up means a vet picks one during the consultation instead of typing it and pricing it from memory.

Steps

  1. Go to Procedures.
  2. Press Add Procedures.
  3. Enter the Procedure Name.
  4. Choose the Category it belongs to.
  5. Choose the Pet Type.
  6. Set the Price.
  7. Save.

Use categories properly

The Category is what makes a long list usable. Grouping by the kind of work, such as dental, surgical or diagnostic, means a vet can find something in a few seconds during an appointment.

Without categories a list of a hundred procedures is a list nobody reads, and people start typing things by hand again.

Naming

Name procedures the way your vets say them out loud, not by billing code. The name appears on the invoice the owner reads, so it also has to make sense to somebody who is not clinical.

Pricing

Set the usual price. Where a procedure genuinely varies, put in the common case rather than leaving it at zero, because a zero on a list gets missed and ends up unbilled.

Adding one during a visit

Procedures are added while writing up the consultation, alongside Choose Doctor and Choose Consultation. They then flow onto the bill, so nothing has to be remembered afterwards.

Keeping it tidy

Search Procedures finds one quickly. Remove procedures you no longer offer rather than leaving them, because a list that includes things you stopped doing two years ago is how the wrong thing gets billed.
