Counts drift. A bottle gets broken, something goes out of date, a sale gets rung up wrong. Rather than pretending it did not happen, record the correction so the reason is on file.

Steps

  1. Go to Inventory, then Stock Updates.
  2. Press Update Stock.
  3. Choose the product.
  4. Enter the new count, and say why it changed.
  5. Save.

Why the reason matters

The reason is what turns a mystery into information. Damage tells you something about handling, expiry tells you that you are over ordering, and neither shows up if every correction just says adjustment.

Doing a full count

If you are counting the whole shop, work through it product by product rather than in one go. A single entry that changes forty products at once is impossible to unpick later if one number was typed wrong.

If something goes wrong

If the count goes back to being wrong within days, the cause is usually stock leaving without being recorded. Check that sales are going through invoices rather than being handed over off the books.
